This item was originally published when this blog was known as “The Office Rat.”
I’ve been thinking a lot about work-life balance since I started The Office Rat. I’m spending a couple of hours each morning writing this publication and occasional stretches in the evening working on design and other issues. I am also still doing full-time massage therapy, now cramming all of my appointments into weekday afternoons.
I had a couple of other ideas about things I might write today on work-life balance, but my integrity started to suffer each time I started on them, the old “Do as I say, not as I do” issue arising each time.
So I’m giving myself a day off * . And you should, too. Maybe not today. But sometime soon, when you’re feeling the need for a retreat from the demands of your job, take a vacation day, a “mental health day,” a sick day, or whatever your situation permits.
* A day off from The Office Rat anyway – I’ve still got four massage appointments this afternoon, so I guess I haven’t totally resolved the “Do as I say, not as I do” issue just yet.
